Radiology and imaging software, measured across four AI engines

Broadcastwell ran this measurement and sells AI search visibility services, so treat us as an interested party. We are not a vendor in this category and we are not in any ranking on this site. In our own category we were named in 0 of 200 answers and cited 0 times among 663 citations. This page reports the citation structure of the sweep. The vendor-level named counts belong to a live conversation and are held rather than published.

01

The shape of the citation layer

Radiology and imaging is a category with real third-party infrastructure. Analyst firms rate it, health systems publish selection criteria, professional bodies issue guidance. That is more external validation than most B2B software categories have, and it makes the citation structure worth reading closely.

A broad source list with a very flat distribution underneath it.

Six hundred and twenty-two citations across 187 domains looks like breadth. Ninety-four of those domains were cited exactly once, which means half the source list contributed a single reference and never came back. The tail is long and it carries almost nothing.

02

The analyst layer is thinner than it looks

KLAS is the reference point buyers in this category name without being asked, and it was the largest single third-party source in the sweep. It took 9 of the 622 citations, under two percent.

That is not a criticism of KLAS. It reflects how retrieval works: an engine composing an answer opens whatever it can read, and a great deal of analyst material sits behind registration or subscription where a retrieval system cannot reach it. Coverage that a buyer values highly can be nearly absent from the machine that now writes the shortlist.

The practical reading for a vendor is that analyst relations and AI search visibility are not substitutes. A strong analyst position does not automatically produce engine visibility, because the engine may never have read the report.

03

How this compares with a category that has no third parties

It is worth setting this beside our own agency category, which we measured with the same four-engine method and published in full.

CategoryCitationsDomainsCited onceLargest third-party source
Radiology and imaging62218794KLAS at 9, the largest single third-party source
AI search visibility agencies663223129No third-party source above the vendor domains

Similar totals, very different source composition. The agency category had no third-party source above the vendor domains at all.

Two categories with almost the same citation volume need different work. In one, the engines have independent material to reach for and a vendor competes to be described accurately in it. In the other, the engines read the vendors and nothing else, so the vendor's own published surface is the entire input. Spending on the wrong one of those is the common and expensive mistake.

04

What this means for an imaging vendor

Three things follow from a 622-citation, 187-domain, 94-once structure.

Chasing breadth is not the lever. A domain that cites you once and never again moves nothing. Identify the sources that repeat across runs and work on those. Second, analyst coverage should be treated as valuable for buyers and unreliable for engines, which means the same material needs a readable public form. Third, measure the named count separately from the citation count, because a category with a rich source layer can read you often and still name someone else.

Our method is published at github.com/Broadcastwell/audit-method so it can be run without us, and our own score against it, 0 of 40, is at our own visibility page.

05

Method and limits

What we ran. A sweep of radiology and imaging software across four engines, Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, one run per prompt, in 2026. The sweep returned 622 citations across 187 domains.
What we counted. Citations are every URL an engine returned, opened and resolved to a domain. A domain counts once per citation, not once per answer.
What this does not prove. This page reports citation structure only. It does not rank vendors, and nothing here measures image quality, workflow fit, regulatory posture, price or clinical outcome. One sweep is one window, and a category with this much third-party material can move as that material changes.
What is held back and why. The vendor-level named counts from this sweep belong to a live commercial conversation and are not published. The citation structure is published because it describes the category rather than any single company.
Where we sit. Broadcastwell ran the measurement and sells AI search visibility services. It is not a vendor in this category and is excluded from every ranking on this site. In its own category Broadcastwell was named in 0 of 200 answers and cited 0 times among 663 citations.

Questions

Do AI engines rely on analyst firms for radiology software answers?

Less than the category assumes. In this sweep KLAS was the largest single third-party source and took 9 of the 622 citations returned, which is under two percent. Analyst coverage is present but it is not the spine of the answer.

What does a long tail of single-citation domains mean?

94 of the 187 domains cited in this sweep appeared exactly once. Half the source list carries almost no weight, which means chasing breadth of coverage buys very little. The citations that repeat are the ones worth influencing.

Why measure citations rather than traffic?

Because an AI answer can decide a shortlist without ever sending a click. A citation records that an engine opened a source while composing an answer, which is upstream of the naming decision and invisible in analytics.

Is Broadcastwell one of the vendors compared here?

No. Broadcastwell runs the measurement and sells AI search visibility services, so it is excluded from every ranking on this site. In its own category measurement Broadcastwell was named in 0 of 200 answers and cited 0 times among 663 citations.
